Growing pains: good riddance to Cloudflare
March 18, 2021 by ZippyImage Staff
The above image is what the ZippyImage home page looked like on February 10, 2021.
For a service that is not yet even one year old, we've already had to deal with quite our share of bullshit. We already experienced our first DDoS attack some months ago, which is why we began using the popular Cloudflare service to protect our site. Cloudflare is a firewall, DDoS protection, and Content Delivery Network (CDN). It allowed us to stay online despite attacks, and even allowed us to serve images a little faster.
Many developers are familiar with Cloudflare. The developers of ZippyImage have actually used Cloudflare for many other projects over the years. They had never had any problems... until now.
Update: our new commenting system
January 28, 2021 by ZippyImage Staff
As of today we have released our new commenting system. This replaces Disqus for all content on ZippyImage.
When we first launched ZippyImage, we used Disqus (a 3rd-party commenting service) to save time. Disqus has a few drawbacks -- it requires a separate login to post comments, it doesn't fully integrate with the other features of our website, and we don't have any control over how the actual data is stored or handled. On the other hand, Disqus is pretty well known and using it saved us a whole chunk of development work, allowing us to launch ZippyImage faster. At the time, we felt the trade-off was worth it...
ZippyImage is officially launched!

ZippyImage is an all-new service for sharing and organizing your photos. It's also a community where you can interact, comment, and have discussions in a friendly environment.
There are other services like ours already, but we founded ZippyImage because we believe there are things we can do better...
