Count Nefaria under Kurt Busiek's writing had Count Nefaria matching Post-Crisis Superman who wielded Captain America's shield. -JLA/Avengers issue #4

Iron Man in his Renaissance armor tanks a beating from Count Nefaria while his armor isn't even online. Count Nefaria uses all of his energy to the point of depletion on Iron Man who weathers the storm and hurts Nefaria with his low energy repulsors, which causes Nefaria to drop the landmass he was holding, turning the landscape changing strength Count Nefaria failed to kill Iron Man with for an extended period of time, against Nefaria himself for a brief moment. Count Nefaria confirms he is weak at that point and tries to escape but couldn't due to shield agents. Iron Man is still standing despite his lack of energy. Imagine what Iron Man would've done to Count Nefaria had his armor been functional at full power to fight back instead of just allowing Nefaria to tire himself by attacking Iron Man to no avail.

Keep in mind the armor's natural shielding/force fields and energy levels are significant factors to Iron Man's strength.
